Private Space: Bathroom Utilities

Every morning we use many items in the bathroom that help us to get ready for the day. Some of them, even if they appear to be simple, feature astonishing details when broken down into pieces and sorted.
After testing a number of objects I featured four bathroom utilities: A razor where the head was broken down into seven pieces. A hairbrush which to my surprise consisted out of 122 separate brushes. A toothbrush which had even more brushes condensed on a small surface. And a tube of toothpaste consisting out of different elements/colors.

Public Space: KVB Plans

Every tram station in Cologne has a customer information display which consists out of four sections. A zones map in the upper left corner, a transportation map in the upper right, the timetables of the lines arriving at the station in the lower left and advertisement or further information of the KVB in the lower right.
I took different sorting approaches for the sections. The zones map and the transportation map are broken down in an abstracted way. So the lines in the map for example are not the exact same length of the original, but they rather represent the lengths in relation to each other. The same applies to the regional map within the zones map, where the separate areas are sorted according to their surface size. On the contrary, each element of the timetable and the advertisement/information is sorted strictly considering its shape, color and length, the font size and type.

KISD Space: Floor One Blackboards

The Blackboards on the first floor in KISD are slightly structured by movable headlines. But since everything is pinned down with magnets, lots of notes and posters get moved around ending up covering each other. The blackboards consist of several separate units that are spread along the first part of the hallway. Lots of old information is still hanging there. We took everything off the boards and ordered it according to color and size. First the magnets, then the KISD internal information like the table of assignments or the examination dates. Next, all the newspaper articles and press releases. And finally, the advertisements, the information about events, and all the big posters.
